CUTE AND HOMELY
"If you haven't yet been to the cute and very homely "Petite Flore" just off place Royal, I have a feeling you'll like its homestyle french cooking, some modern cuisne and usually only about 16€ each even with a bottle of wine between two!!"

JAZZY AMBIENCE WITH A SOUTHERN BIAS
"Un coin en ville", 2 place de la bourse (behind FNAC) - Tél : 02 40 20 05 97. A long restaurant with exposed stone with a very refined decor and an ambience jazzy and cosy French cuisine with a slant towards Soouthern France.
Recommended by Anne Montfort.
WHAT BETTER WAY TO START YOUR WEEKEND than with breakfast at La Cigale. Opened in 1895, it was designated a historic monument in 1964 to safeguard its Art Nouveau interior and 1890s tilework.
Celebrity spotting - Charlotte Rampling, Catherine Deneuvre. Jean-Louis Trintignant described it as 'perhaps the most beautiful brasserie in the world'

AT LAST, A GREAT VEGETARIAN RESTAURANT IN NANTES?
I haven't tried it yet but when I heard about the Lamy Café and took a look at the menu I did get very excited. Its one thing I really miss in France - good vegetarian food - Just click the pic to take a look at the menu. Sounds good, let's hope it tastes good!

FANTASTIC VALUE FOR LUNCH! BC& BC
(Bar convivial and bistrot gourmand)
Siobhan Gately and I lunched here last week and it was really great value. For 11 euros we had 2 courses, wine and coffee and the food was delicious! Well worth a visit! Sweeeeez Cours Franklin Roosevelt
LUNCH IN AN ARTY SETTING?
Chez Lizette (1 rue Louis Blanc, 02 40 47 04 44), on the Ile de Nantes, serves a cheap, creative menu (three-course lunch €12) in an arty setting. There is also a bar and DJ on Friday nights. A great atmosphere, really relaxed and lots of locals. Worth a try!

Le 1
" Le 1 is a new trendy place in the heart of Nantes, just next to the new law court, along the river. Very warm welcome, very pleasant atmosphere but a bit pricy if you don't stick to the menu. A spotless kitchen opens onto the main room and once you have ordered your meal, you can go and have a chat with the chef. The waiters are friendly and no one minds if you take kids, drink more than you should or use your fingers to eat! We all loved the food, from appetizers to desserts. The mango macaron is beyond heaven..."
