Bree Williams ...

Each month you will meet one of our members and learn a little more about what makes them tick. This month we thank Bree Williams for answering our questions.
Bree, how would you describe yourself? Australian trapped in what she thinks was supposed to be a European's life.... a victim/lover of all things French for over 3 years in total now - (and she only just came to check out the champagne!) Bree has moved from Australia to France, not once but twice and will never tire of the endless struggle to just be able to 'get' all things french.

What is your greatest achievement?  Being able to so far, escape the daily bump and grind and be able to travel and jump on a few 'bandwagons' since the age of 19. Oh and my friends, whilst not really an 'achievement' persay, I have met some faaaantastic people on the way.

What makes you get out of bed in the morning? A shrill sounding alarm clock! (...and the fact my mind is usually already ticking over all the things i have to go back and fix up from the day before!)

What do you think is the most important lesson that life has taught you to date?  That it is better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't.

What or who is the most important thing in your life? Good Music and good Company... the two together? Well that's just getting spoiled!!!

What is your favourite french expression? Why?  I really can't decide...there are so many...I have however apparently picked up the french physical expression of the "pah" where I kind of shrug my shoulders, throw my eyebrows up in sync with my hands, and move my mouth resembling Dirty Harry..which indicates anything from "I don't know" to "I don't Care", to "Bad Luck", "Whatever", "In Agreeance", "Not so Sure" etc etc

What do you like most about living in France? Why, the CHAMPAGNE of course!!!.... Plus for me France is a zillion cross roads of culture, I find the French very open to it and it's fantastic. I also like the way they'll just go and do something "soi-meme" totally for themselves and no-one else because they want to... it doesn't have to be explained, questioned rien!

What is your favourite place in Nantes? Oooh, this is a hard one.. there are so many lil bars and Restaurants I could not choose... but for chill out places it's definitely my balcony overlooking Nantes in the summer, or a walk along the Erdre, Brasseries are too difficult to comment on and as for the shopping...oooh I had better STOP right there!!

What made you join the Knowing Nantes network? I fully support the idea of this site. It's so much nicer to be able to relate to other people's experiences especially being an ex pat (and in France, of all places!...) and at least not feeling like the only alien, in a world of bizarre 'unspoken' cultural idiosyncrasies (WHAT? No drinking cocktails before 6pm?!!) and more simply networking is the key.
